Agenda: The Role of Religious and Cultural Practices in Gender Equality (Arab World)

The Arab world is shaped by a rich tapestry of religious and cultural traditions, which have historically influenced gender roles, rights, and opportunities. While these traditions serve as pillars of identity and social cohesion, they also intersect with the evolving landscape of gender equality. The challenge lies in balancing respect for cultural and religious values with the promotion of women's rights, ensuring that neither is compromised.

This session will explore how religious interpretations and cultural norms affect gender equality, addressing issues such as women's access to education, employment, political participation, and legal rights. Delegates will examine existing frameworks, best practices, and policy solutions that promote gender inclusivity while respecting the socio-cultural context of the Arab world. Through diplomatic dialogue, the committee aims to foster progressive yet culturally sensitive strategies that empower women and uphold international human rights standards.
