ECOSOC

Committee: Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)
Agenda: Postwar Reconstruction of Syria – Addressing Economic Collapse and Human Development

Over a decade of conflict has left Syria in a state of severe economic and humanitarian crisis. The destruction of infrastructure, loss of human capital, and economic sanctions have contributed to one of the worst economic collapses in modern history. Millions remain displaced, and basic services such as healthcare, education, and employment opportunities are in disarray. As Syria seeks to rebuild, international cooperation is essential to foster economic recovery while ensuring sustainable development and human security.

This session will focus on strategies for economic stabilization, infrastructure redevelopment, and social welfare policies aimed at restoring livelihoods. Delegates will address key challenges such as funding mechanisms, foreign aid, investment policies, and economic sanctions. Balancing immediate humanitarian needs with long-term sustainable growth will be critical in shaping Syria’s path to recovery. The future of postwar Syria depends on coordinated and effective global action—how will ECOSOC respond?
